What Is Pilates?

Pilates is an exercise system that is focused on building strength without bulk, improving flexibility & agility & helping to prevent injury. It involves a series of controlled movements that engage both your body & mind.

Pilates was developed in the 1920s by physical trainer Joseph H. Pilates. He had a lifelong interest in body conditioning, stemming from being a frail, frequently-ill child. He became dedicated to growing stronger & developed the system of Pilates. He later grew to become an accomplished skier, diver, gymnast & boxer.
