Types of Classes


Group Mat Class
Approximately 12 per class.

Introductory Class
This class focuses on the principles & technique of Pilates introducing the use of props to assist with strengthening the core muscles & protecting the back & neck.

Mat Class Levels 1 & 2
Increasing the intensity of the repertoire according to ability, using the magic circle & resistance bands as resistance to strengthen the body & to prepare for the advanced work.

Advanced Mat Class
Introducing the advanced repertoire with modifications where necessary. A wonderfully challenging workout. At least 12 months of Pilates experience is necessary. It is advisable to check with Joan to ensure you are ready
for this level.

Small Group Classes
Maximum 6 per class.

Circuit Classes
A combination of various pieces of classical Pilates equipment designed to effectively strengthen & balance. Equipment includes:
Reformer, Tower, Chair, Barrels & Foot Corrector.

Men’s Classes
Pilates is not only beneficial to women, it’s also beneficial to men, after all it was developed by a man. Many professional male athletes incorporate Pilates into their training programmes in order to enhance their strength, coordination & flexibility. Professional golfers, tennis players & rugby teams regularly use the benefits of Pilates to improve their performances.

 

Speciality Classes

Pre-Natal
Includes postural awareness, strengthening lower back & pelvic floor, breathing techniques, stretching, relaxation. Pilates commences in the second Trimester.

Post-Natal
Six weeks after a normal delivery & 11 weeks after a C-Section, gentle exercises can resume once your GP has given the all clear. Includes post-natal exercises to strengthen the muscles gradually from the inside out.

Osteoporosis*
Exercise alone can halt the progression of Osteoporosis. Stronger back muscles can reduce the incidence of vertebral fractures. Specific Pilates exercises can strengthen the body to improve balance & increase bone density.

Body Restoration & Balance For
Women With Breast Cancer*
A pilates exercise programme is great for post-surgery rehabilitation because of the emphasis on postural alignment & movement with core control. Our goals include:
• Restoring mobility, stability, strength
& flexibility.
• Re-educating core muscles to improve
posture & regain balance.
• Maintenance of bone density affected
by chemotherapy & radiotherapy.

One-To-One Classes
One-to-one sessions are available for those
who would like individual attention, have specific
targeted injury areas or have goals requiring more frequent sessions.

 

* It is recommended to take individual classes initially to ensure postural alignment & safety.
